Dress worn as shirt: Urban Outfitters, skirt: Gap, Jacket: Target, tights: Hue, booties: ModCloth
I wanted to wear something comfy for a Saturday where I wouldn't be doing much of anything so I threw on this flannel dress from Urban and then put the skirt on top of it because I felt there weren't enough options just wearing the dress for making it look different than ways I've worn it before. The pink tights added the color I needed and fit in with the Willy Wonka theme of the party I went to at my friend's frat that night. I want a shirt that looks like this dress - plaid, flannel and a little oversized to wear with skirts - less bulky than the dress underneath but with the same effect.
This has been a long time coming, since I finished my slide show over a week ago, but soundslides is super lame and won't let me upload directly to blogger. Oh well. I made a video instead which makes me a little sad, because I had this wonderful slide show that you could watch with or without captions or just click through. But blogger and soundslides conspired against me. So, finally, here are my favorites from New York Fashion Week - pictures and my thoughts. It's long so I don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing. Maybe I just should have done posts everyday that I saved new pictures, but this is how it ended up. The captions come up and go back really quickly (another problem with video) so if you have a whole lot of time you can pause it when the caption comes up. grumble, grumble, grumble. Okay, I'll stop complaining. Enjoy.
Blazer: F21, dress: American Eagle, tights: hue, shoes:Urban Outfitters
I had to change up my picture location a little bit since some guy from the floor above me came down the stairs right after me and I couldn't just stop and set up a tripod. I walked down the hallway and found this other staircase with a cautionary door at the bottom.
This dress isn't actually a dress so much as it is a nightgown, but I love the sheer ruffles so much that I can't help but wear it out too. With a blazer on top and a slip underneath no one can tell that it's only really meant for the bedroom. The cold and snow has returned to Chicagoland and so I'm dreaming of the days when I can wear this dress and shoes without any socks or tights. It's still a long way off.
So here's a little story. Back in December, I saw some shoes from the Urban Outfitters spring(?) catalog that I thought were really cute and went back and forth over ordering them. In early January I finally did place my order only to be informed that they were on backorder until February. Since then, I've waited patiently, rarely checking the website to see if they had shipped. A couple days ago, I received an email telling me that soon I would receive those shoes that I had desired so many weeks ago. Today, they came. Sorry for all the pictures. But anyway, I love them. They're just as cute as they were online and they fit really well. I can't wait for all the disgusting melting snow to go away so I can wear them outside without fearing that I'll ruin them. They'll be perfect spring shoes.
The title of this post comes from the color of my sweater and headband obviously, but also those Kraft macaroni and cheese commercials with little kids that they used to show. I just remember at the end of those commercials some cute kid with a big smile would sing "I got the blues" about his macaroni and cheese that came out of a box. We never really ate Kraft macaroni and cheese in my house (it was all about the Annie's) but I do remember those commercials pretty vividly. And those ones with the dinosaur.

I took these pictures really quickly because the first time I went downstairs there were people there and the second time I thought I could hear footsteps. It makes for very stressful photo taking. My day however, was not stressful - I registered for the last of my classes for next quarter and ended up with free Thursdays and almost-free Tuesdays which I hope I can be productive with - maybe I'll work on the blog more. This skirt is another one I hadn't worn in a while that needed some love. And this skirt deserves the love since it cost me so much. It, along with my Lilly Pulitzer vest, was my big purchase at the end of the summer from hell when I worked as a hostess. You can probably tell that I didn't like the job that much, but it did finance a good deal of clothing.
I mentioned that when I'm inside I wear my boots untied - it's just more comfy that way when I don't have to worry about falling on ice. I thought I'd give a nice close-up of them. I was going to actually take one while in the basement, but because of the ominous noises, I instead just present a close-up from the first picture.
Does anyone remember those old Scooby Doo shows with guest stars? I think they were originally from the early 1970s but they showed reruns all the time on Cartoon Network when I was younger. I loved watching those old cartoons- Scooby Doo, Speed Racer, Jonny Quest, Wacky Races, and the Perils of Penelope Pitstop. Those were truly quality cartoons. Sometimes when I'm at home I still watch those shows on the Boomerang channel. Anyway, last night I was thinking of a specific episode of Scooby Doo because the song, which I thought was called "Little Mary Sunshine" but is actually called "Pretty Mary Sunlight" somehow seeped into my brain and got stuck there. I did some quick google-ing and wikipedia-ing to find out who it was. The guest star was Jerry Reed who I guess was a country singer (according to Wiki and of course, Scooby Doo) and here's the song:
It's been a stressful couple of days but I feel like I'm settling into the work I need to do so tomorrow will be productive. Tomorrow I hope to settle back in to more regular posts, because I hate missing those when I get so busy. Luckily I wasn't so busy I couldn't take a few pictures. I think the stress has gotten to me, since they got a little silly at the end.Cardigan: H&M, dress: Target, tights: Target, shoes: Minnetonka
I actually wore this outfit with my snow boots outside but once inside I put on my moccasins for a little more comfort. I love this floral dress. I think it goes well in every season, since the floral is dark enough not to scream spring but the 3/4 length sleeves go well on spring days and cool summer nights. This is how I wore it in August: Pretty different, but it shows how versatile the dress is. I like being able to wear my clothes in all seasons. Unless it's a piece of clothing that serves a specific purpose, like a bathing suit, why limit it to just one time of the year?
It has been kind of a rough day. I'm still up working and trying to find classes to take next quarter since I register in the morning. I had a difficult morning - I barely managed to stay awake during my history class and then after lunch I took a three hour nap. Then I started in on my work, which isn't done yet but is due tomorrow at 10 so there's no other time but now to be working since I am not a morning person.
My friend Abbey told me at dinner that I always make her feel underdressed. I took it as a compliment.
I hadn't worn this skirt in a while so I had to pull it out of the closet. That's the way I feel about my clothes - everything needs some love. I liked the combo of blue and gray because the day was overcast and I felt like I fit right in with my colors and my mood.
I'm still working on getting my fashion week slideshow uploaded, but I may have to redo it in another program to get it to work. Or buy a domain name so I can have a webhost that will let me use an FTP. Oh, technology.
I finally did laundry this weekend and thus organized my closet (a relatively difficult feat in such a tiny dorm room) while watching The Devil Wears Prada. There are few better movies to watch while organizing one's closet - it's great inspiration. I also did some ironing, which resulted in my being able to wear this green dress from Banana Republic that I love so much.
Dress: Banana Republic, sweater: Old Navy, tights: Old Navy, socks: Target, boots: Nordstrom
These boots weren't the best choice for the day since the slush and ice on the ground made walking to class a dangerous task and these boots have a very smooth bottom. I slipped and slid all day, but I managed to stay upright at least.
My favorite soundtracks: Part III Twilight and New Moon Say what you will about the Twilight Saga. Whether or not you enjoy the books or movies though, I think everyone can agree that they use some pretty awesome music (well, not everyone, but a lot of people, i hope.) Twilight: One of the things that was apparent after seeing Twilight ( was how wonderfully the music director did her job. The beauty of the soundtrack is how well it fits with the scenes in the movie. The choice of Supermassive Black Hole for the baseball scene is probably one of the best choices I've ever witnessed for a song in a movie. It fits the scene perfectly and the effect is really amazing. What could have been a sort of run-of-the-mill scene was elevated because of the music choice. (I am a little partial to Muse as well as I have actually seen them live) The artists chosen perfectly fit the tone of the film as well. Even though Twilight is this huge phenomenon complete with screaming obsessed fans, the music wasn't your typical pop acts. Perry Farrell, Iron & Wine and Mute Math paired with Muse, Paramore and Linkin Park make for a pretty unique soundtrack. Highlights: Decode - Paramore
Supermassive Black Hole - Muse
Flightless Bird, American Mouth - Iron & Wine
New Moon: I could say basically the same things about the New Moon soundtrack - excellent choices that fit with the scenes perfectly and there are some great songs written expressly for the movie. Once again a great mix of bands elevates its status - Death Cab for Cutie, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Thom Yorke as well as Anya Marina, Lykke Li and Bon Iver &St. Vincent make the disc truly memorable. I think what really impresses me is the time taken to choose these bands and songs. With a movie this popular, they probably could have stuck whatever top 40 music they wanted to on the soundtrack, but they went for groups who are well-respected which creates an appeal outside of the twilight frenzy. Highlights: Meet Me on The Equinox - Death Cab
Saturday
I spent Saturday doing laundry for the most part. It's really when I do my laundry that I realize how much clothing I have. There are 28 dresses in my wardrobe. 28! I'm not sure how that's possible in such a tiny dorm room.

It snowed on Friday night, which is why I broke out the boots. Here they're untied because I had been inside for so long. They keep my feet so warm, which was good since I made a trek up to north campus and back to hang out with my friends.
Sunday:
Shirt: Old Navy, skirt: American Eagle, shoes: Gap
This shirt is actually a hot pink, which doesn't come across very well in these pictures. I was extremely casual today since I mostly just laid around. I did finish my massive slideshow though, and once I can figure out how to upload it, it will be up for perusal.
Even though it's supposed to snow tomorrow, I'm still going to keep thinking about spring. I've been drooling over some pairs of shoes recently so I thought I'd share.
I never thought I'd find myself going crazy over a pair of shoes from Bass, but these high-heeled saddle shoes are just too cute. I could see them going perfectly with skirts and dresses with ankle socks peeking out.Sorry for the terrible picture quality on these, but I had to take a screenshot, since Aldo has simply been teasing me with these shoes. I saw them in an ad in Teen Vogue and went on their website to find them. They're in their spring 2010 preview video but not up on the site yet. I will check back everyday.
I used to wear clogs in my younger years, like elementary age, but I haven't given them much thought since. This year though, they're back in style and these ones from Benetton are pretty awesome. I could see them working well with skinny jeans or a skirt and some knee socks.
I'm convinced that part of the basement is where old lamps go to die. I feel like I should take one of them in since the lamp for my room is MIA.

It was sunny and almost kind of warm today so I went for the floral skirt and stripe combo so I could feel like spring. I cannot wait to be warm again. I feel like even though winter hasn't been so bad it just makes me want spring more. I want to see green on trees and flowers on the ground. I want to not have to layer so much. And most of all I want to not have to wait three months before I see spring.
I think I'm going to try to get into a cycle of posting outfits the day after I wear them since I take my pictures so late at night. That way there's always a post it just might not be the current day's outfit. It'll keep me from being up at 2:16 writing about my clothes and not sleeping. Unless of course I'm really and truly up anyway and not just rattling something off before bed.
I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned this, but my sister is the Best Sister Ever. You may have a sister and think she's pretty awesome. But my sister wins. Sorry.I got this package in the mail from her today.
That's right, my sister sent me the Urban Decay Alice in Wonderland palette and it's AWESOME. I'm sure you've seen pictures of it, and it's even cooler in person. The little pop-up scene is adorable and just perfect and the colors are amazing. I love Urban Decay for their amazing colors though their prices are a little bit expensive for me to go crazy and buy them all. This is the best way for me to get to try out so many of their colors. I think I'm going to prepare a makeup post, since I have so many pretty colors now. My sister also gave me Urban Decay and Makeup Forever eyeliners for Christmas so I have lots - I told you she was awesome.
