desert dreams

It's no secret that I love Anthropologie and their monthly catalog. Even though I don't receive it in the mail, I always make sure to look at it online, since the pictures are always lovely and the styling is excellent. February's catalog was no exception. The catalog took on a sort of desert circus theme that I loved. Interestingly, it reminded me of two CDs that I love: "Sam's Town" by The Killers and "Pretty.Odd." by Panic at the Disco. To me, "Sam's Town" has a desert aesthetic. Part of that clearly comes from the images associated with the album, but the music also fits the bill. These pictures remind me of the last lyrics to "This River Is Wild" - "Now the cars are everywhere, lacing dust at the fairground, I don't think I've ever seen so many headlights. But there's something pulling me. The circus and their crew well they're just passing through making sure that merry still goes round, but it's a long, long, long way down." The circus theme also reminds me of Panic at the Disco, a band out of the desert of Las Vegas. Their music always incorporates a little touch of the whimsical and their videos have included some circus-y elements. The muted color palette of these pictures reminds me of their second album rather than their first though because the second was quieter and less bombastic. These pictures deserve a calm and sweet soundtrack.

I think images like these are the most effective in catalogs - pictures that evoke an emotion or remind you of something. It certainly makes everything more appealing and increases my desire for them. They also make me want to take a road trip through the deserts and take pictures wearing pretty dresses. Someday I'll have a steady job and I'll be able to actually make purchases like these and go on my adventures.
