What Ever Happened

What ever happened to old New Year's Eve on MTV? I watched the rerun of the hour before midnight during the hour after midnight and I was really surprised by how much things have changed. It's like whoever was in charge over at MTV forgot that they were supposed to do a New Year's Eve show. In the past, you could at least count on musical guests to put on a good show (and sometimes for the host to get drunk). It used to be a good show over at MTV because they'd have their musical guests before midnight and then right after midnight they'd have a band perform a cover song. It was only a few years ago that I remember AFI doing "Song 2." This year all they had was people from various television shows talking about inane things. I think the cast of Jersey Shore killed some of my brain cells. And a countdown of the top 9 moments of 2009 that made me incredibly sad when Obama's inauguration was ranked lower than Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs. I found myself wishing for the old days of MTV, with actual music and real VJs. Next year I'd like some music and perhaps Gideon Yago and Quddus. Can you do that for me MTV?
