Weekend reading

I love reading magazines. That's basically why I'm in journalism school. I love to write and I love magazines. Last night on my way back from dinner, my friend and I stopped into Borders to browse and while he picked up a book, I picked up four magazines (for approximately the same price). I had already read the January Vogue, Elle, Teen Vogue and Bazaar, but I picked up Marie Claire, Lucky, Nylon and the February Bazaar. I had actually never really read Marie Claire before - maybe in a waiting room somewhere, but I had never purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised by it though equal emphasis on articles and fashion. I don't know what it was like before Nina Garcia worked there, but it appears she's doing good work. I scanned some of the highlights from the magazines I read.
Marie Claire:
First, a page dedicated to Alice in Wonderland. With the Tim Burton movie coming out in March, it's all over the place, which I can't help but love. My favorite thing on the page? The teacups and saucers just to the right of the picture from the Disney movie. The bright colors and patterns are perfect for a spirited tea party. I think I want to start collecting tea cups and saucers, and when I have my own living space (when I graduate) teapots too. I'd like to be one of those people who just has tons of teacups that don't match but are charming together nonetheless.I loved this page on tulle, since I'm a big fan of dreamy floaty girly clothes. I just wish I could afford that dress in the middle and the skirt in the upper left.
This page was part of a spread about wedding advice from one of their editors who had recently gotten married. I would wear any of those suggestions for bridesmaid dresses. The one in the middle, a Burberry dress, was photographed on Miley Cyrus in the February Bazaar. If I had $4000 lying around maybe I'd go for it...
Lucky

I'm not always completely enthused by the styling in Lucky, but recently, I've been liking it more and more. I loved this picture for a few reasons: the hat, the gloves, and the boots-socks combination. All are things I could see myself wearing, though this picture looks more suited to fall than winter, at least where I am.I'm not going to lie, you may see my wearing some variation on this outfit sometime soon. They recommend a turtleneck (ick) but I've got a black peacoat and a black and white striped scarf...so there might be some copying seen here.
Bazaar
I would have scanned the whole editorial that this picture came from but I was lazy. I loved the mixed prints and the colors they used in this spread, all showcased on bicycle. A fun fact about me: I never learned how to ride a bike. I'm almost twenty years old and I do not know how to ride a bike. I'd like to learn though, especially since it might be useful when I live in a city (since I plan to live in a city for a good portion of my life). This picture may have been the inspiration behind me wearing stripes today. And the sweater in the picture is from Gap, so I might have to look into that.
