Fast Away the Old Year Passes

Last day of 2009! It seems amazing to be here, and yet I'm sure that tomorrow will just feel like another day - not the beginning of a new decade. I decided to honor the past in my dress today. My grandmother made this dress, sometime in the 60s, I believe, so this dress is probably 30 years older than me. One of the remarkable things about this dress is a) how well it holds up - it doesn't look old to me, and it was probably made a whole lot better than a lot of the clothes I own - and b) how similar in size my grandmother, mother and I all were at different points in our lives. My grandmother was always really small and my mother was my size when she was younger. It gives me hope that in the future I might have daughters to whom I can pass along the dresses I have. Who knows, maybe 30 years from now, my daughter will be wearing this very same dress.
One of my favorite things about this dress, and the reason why I chose it for New Year's Eve, is that it's a white dress with a sheer woven fabric overlay. The overlay has stripes of silver thread running through it - making it shimmery and festive.Happy New Year!
